Torch cutting of slabs and rectangular or round billets.
Torch cutting involves using a heating flame to heat the steel at the desired cutting point to ignition temperature and then burning through it with a cutting oxygen jet.
Each one of our torch cutting machines is constructed using tried-and-tested components and designed according to our customers’ specifications.
The machines vary depending on the steel product needing cutting. We distinguish between continuous torch cutting machines for slabs, for billets and for blooms.
The machines are synchronised with the strand to be cut. The strand moves at the pouring rate and is heated to 800-1100°C. The slabs, billets (round, square or rectangular) or blooms are cut to the desired lengths or weights with the help of our highly-developed GeGa nozzles.
The development of new cutting nozzles (GeGa BOA, GeGa HOBS) with special cutting oxygen channels coupled with high cutting oxygen pressures has led to faster, more efficient cutting.
